When does gynaecomastia require a surgical assessment?

Gynaecomastia is the enlargement of the glandular breast tissue in men and can differ from an appearance caused by fat accumulation alone. If there is one-sided or two-sided enlargement, pain, tenderness, rapid change, a firm mass or nipple discharge, a physician assessment is needed without delay. Medication, hormones, supplements, alcohol or substance use and conditions involving the liver, the kidneys or the hormone system may be investigated. Depending on the examination, blood tests or imaging may be requested. Some cases during adolescence can regress with observation; in adults with persistent gynaecomastia that causes distress, liposuction, removal of the glandular tissue or a combination of the two may be considered once the underlying causes have been assessed. The extent of surgery varies with the amount of excess skin and the distribution of the tissue. When looking into gynaecomastia treatment in Denizli, start with a plastic surgery assessment that identifies the cause and the tissue type rather than with a direct decision to operate.
