Under-Eye Filler

Under-eye filler is planned with a personalised approach focused on a natural-looking result, predictable outcomes and patient safety.

Overview

Under-eye filler is tailored to your medical history and treatment goals, with a focus on a natural-looking result, predictable outcomes and patient safety. At the consultation, your physician draws up a realistic plan based on your needs. Each stage is followed up with regular check-ups so that healing and long-term results stay safe and stable.

What Is Under-Eye Filler?

Under-eye filler is an injection treatment that aims to reduce the look of volume loss and hollowness under the eyes.

The aim is not simply to fill the area, but to soften the transition between the under-eye area and the cheek, help light fall more evenly on the skin, and reduce the dark look caused by shadowing.

The treatment is usually done with hyaluronic acid fillers. Because the eye area is very delicate, however, not every filler is suitable here.

Whether you are suitable is decided by assessing factors such as skin thickness, visible blood vessels, the type of dark circles and any bags under the eyes.

When Is Under-Eye Filler Used?

How Is Under-Eye Filler Done?

Before the procedure, the under-eye area is assessed in detail: the depth of the hollow, skin quality, the type of dark circles and any bags are examined.

The area is cleaned and usually numbed with a local anaesthetic cream.

A needle or a cannula may be used. The filler is injected in small, controlled amounts.

At the end of the procedure, symmetry and natural appearance are checked, and minor corrections are made if necessary.

Most people can return to daily life the same day. Slight swelling or bruising may appear in the first few days.

Not Every Dark Circle Can Be Corrected with Filler

Dark circles under the eyes have more than one cause, and filler addresses only one of them. That is why the cause is identified before any treatment.

Possible Side Effects of Under-Eye Filler

Swelling and bruising are the most common side effects and usually ease within a few days. Swelling under the eyes may last longer than on other parts of the face.

If filler is placed too close to the surface, a bluish tint can show through thin skin (the Tyndall effect). With hyaluronic acid fillers this can be corrected by dissolving the filler if needed.

A rare but serious complication is filler blocking a blood vessel. Around the eyes this can affect vision, so if you notice blurred vision, loss of vision, severe pain or paleness of the skin, go to an emergency department straight away.

Factors That Determine the Price of Under-Eye Filler

The price is set individually once the under-eye area has been assessed and it is clear whether filler is suitable. If filler is not the right option for you, you will be told so at the consultation.

Quick Facts

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a suitable candidate?

This is decided after a specialist assessment and medical examination.

How does recovery go after under-eye filler?

Mild swelling and bruising may last a few days. Your physician will give you aftercare advice.

When is the final plan decided?

The treatment plan is finalised after the examination.

How long does under-eye filler last?

Because the under-eye area moves relatively little, the effect often lasts longer than in mobile areas such as the lips. How long it lasts depends on the product and the individual; you will be given specific information at your examination.

I have bags under my eyes — can I have filler?

If the bags are caused by fat pads pushing forward, filler may not improve their appearance and can even make them more noticeable. In that case, options such as eyelid surgery are considered.

Can under-eye filler cause a blue tint?

If filler is placed too close to the surface, a bluish tint can show through thin skin (the Tyndall effect). Correct depth and a suitable product reduce this risk; if it does occur, hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved.

What does the price of under-eye filler depend on?

It depends on the product used, the amount needed and whether an additional area such as cheek support is added to the plan. The exact price is set after the under-eye area has been assessed.
