What Is Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant?
Sapphire FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a modern hair transplant method in which hair follicles are removed one by one and transplanted to bald or thinning areas.
In this technique, the channels are opened with special blades made from sapphire instead of conventional steel blades. Because sapphire blades are fine and precise, the channels that will hold the follicles can be created in a more controlled way.
This approach is regarded as one of the modern methods that help hair transplant planning achieve a natural look and the desired density.
Features of the Sapphire FUE Method
The special sapphire blades used in sapphire FUE allow:
- Precise planning of the channels
- Controlled preparation of the areas that will receive the follicles
- Natural hair exit angles
- Planning for high-density transplantation
- A more comfortable healing process
Results can vary depending on personal factors and hair type.
Who Is Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant Suitable For?
After a specialist assessment, the following candidates may be considered suitable:
- People with male pattern hair loss
- People with female pattern hair thinning
- People with a receding hairline
- Patients with thinning at the crown
- People with loss of density at the temples
- Candidates with enough follicles in the donor area
- People in suitable general health
Suitability for treatment is decided after a thorough hair analysis and medical assessment.
How Is Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant Performed?
The treatment is planned individually and usually involves the following stages:
Hair Analysis and Planning
The extent of hair loss, the capacity of the donor area and the target density are assessed.
Graft Extraction
Healthy follicles are removed one by one from the donor area and prepared for transplantation.
Opening Channels with Sapphire Blades
Sapphire blades are used to create the micro-channels that will hold the follicles.
Graft Placement
The extracted follicles are placed in the recipient area following the natural direction and angle of hair growth.
Follow-up and Check-ups
Healing after the operation is followed up with regular check-ups.
Advantages of the Treatment
- A hairline designed for you
- Planning aimed at a natural look
- Modern sapphire FUE technology
- Precise channel creation
- Suitable for high-density planning
- Can be performed under local anaesthesia
- Structured follow-up and recovery care
Sapphire FUE or DHI?
In both methods, the follicles are removed one by one from the donor area using the FUE technique; the difference lies in the implantation stage. In sapphire FUE, channels are first opened with sapphire blades and the grafts are then placed into them. In DHI, opening the channel and placing the graft are done in a single step with a Choi implanter pen.
- Sapphire FUE is often preferred for large bald areas and when a high number of grafts is needed
- DHI may be the better choice for adding density between existing hair or when an unshaven transplant is wanted
- In some plans, both techniques can be used in the same operation
Which method is suitable is decided after the capacity of the donor area, the extent of balding and your hair type have been assessed at the examination.
What Happens on the Day of the Procedure?
- Designing the hairline and taking photographs
- Trimming the donor area and giving local anaesthesia
- Removing the follicles one by one using the FUE technique
- Opening the recipient channels with sapphire blades
- Placing the grafts into the channels
- Dressing and aftercare instructions
Depending on the number of grafts, the operation usually takes 4–8 hours, and patients go home the same day.
Recovery Timeline After Sapphire FUE
- First 3 days: The transplanted area is protected; the first wash is done on the day your physician specifies, using the products provided
- Days 7–14: The scabs fall off, redness fades and most people return to social life
- Months 2–4: The shock loss period, when some of the transplanted hairs fall out; the follicles stay in place
- Months 3–6: New hair starts to grow
- Months 12–18: The final density and appearance emerge; this can take longer at the crown
Possible Side Effects of Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant
Swelling of the forehead and around the eyes for a few days, mild pain, itching, scabbing and temporary numbness in the donor area may occur.
Rarely, inflammation of the hair follicles (folliculitis) or infection may develop; following the aftercare instructions reduces this risk.
The information on this page is for general guidance only; diagnosis and treatment plans are decided individually after a physician's examination.
Factors That Determine the Price of Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant
- The number of grafts needed and the extent of balding
- The capacity of the donor area
- Whether one session is enough
- Whether supportive treatments such as PRP are added to the plan
- Accommodation and transfer services for patients travelling from other cities or from abroad
The price is worked out individually once the number of grafts needed has been determined. Front, side, crown and donor-area photos are enough for a preliminary assessment; the final plan is made after the examination.
Travelling from Abroad: Length of Stay and Follow-up After You Return
The procedure is completed in a single day; because the first wash and check-up usually take place at the clinic in the following days, patients travelling from abroad stay in Türkiye for 3–4 days in most plans. Your doctor sets the exact schedule.
- The first consultation can take place online before you travel, using your photos and health information; if you live in Germany, a consultation in German at our Leverkusen location is also possible
- The treatment plan and quote are sent in writing before you travel, stating separately whether tests, check-ups, and accommodation and transfers if applicable, are included
- The transplanted area is protected during the flight; follow the doctor’s advice on hats or neck pillows that press on the head
- Before discharge, it is agreed who you can contact with questions after you return and what your check-up plan is; communication in German and coordination of follow-up continue through our Leverkusen location

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is a suitable candidate for sapphire FUE hair transplant?
Suitability is decided after a specialist consultation, hair analysis and medical assessment.
What is the difference between sapphire FUE and classic FUE?
In sapphire FUE, the channels are opened with sapphire blades. The treatment plan and choice of method are decided by your specialist according to your needs.
Is the operation painful?
Because the procedure is done under local anaesthesia, pain during the operation is kept to a minimum.
How does recovery go after sapphire FUE?
Initial healing usually takes 7 to 14 days. The final result can only be judged once the hair growth cycle is complete.
When is the final treatment plan decided?
The treatment plan is created for you after the clinical assessment and hair analysis.
Is transplanted hair permanent?
Follicles taken from the donor area (usually the back of the head) are genetically more resistant to hair loss, so transplanted hair is considered permanent in the long term. Loss of your existing natural hair may continue, however; supportive treatment can be planned if needed.
What is shock loss, and should I be worried?
It is expected that some of the transplanted hairs will fall out within 2–4 months of the transplant. The follicles stay in place, and new hair begins to grow in the following months.
When can I exercise after a hair transplant?
Gentle walking is possible after a few days. For strenuous exercise, swimming and sports that cause heavy sweating, you usually need to wait at least 2–4 weeks; your physician will tell you exactly when.
How many grafts do I need?
The number of grafts depends on the size of the bald area, the target density and the capacity of the donor area; it is confirmed at the examination or through a photo-based preliminary assessment.
I am travelling from abroad for a hair transplant. How many days should I stay in Türkiye?
The procedure is completed in a single day; because the first wash and check-up take place in the following days, 3–4 days is enough in most plans. Your doctor sets the exact schedule.
