Visiting Ephesus after treatment: when is the right time?

A visit to Ephesus is not like a museum visit. It is a walk of several hours, on slopes and mostly without shade. So whether you can go after treatment depends on what you had done and how many days have passed.

What a visit to Ephesus actually involves

This guide is general information. The advice that applies to you comes from the physician who treats you, and their written instructions take precedence over this page.

  • Walking: The main route between the upper and lower gates is about 1.5–2 km. With the side buildings, most visits take 2–4 hours.
  • Surface: Ancient marble and stone paving, slippery and uneven in places. Entering at the upper gate and leaving by the lower gate keeps most of the route downhill.
  • Shade: Very little along the route.
  • Heat: In July and August the average daily high in the area is around 33–34 °C, and the marble makes it feel hotter.
  • Crowds: Cruise groups mostly arrive around the middle of the day. The first hours after opening and the late afternoon are cooler and quieter.
  • Evening visits: In recent summers the site has opened on some evenings, with entry by the lower gate. Dates change from year to year.
  • Terrace Houses: Covered by a protective roof, so they are out of the sun — but you walk them on stairs and raised walkways. Separate ticket.

The site opens at 08:00; closing time varies by season. Check the official Ministry of Culture and Tourism listing before you go.

Timing by treatment

Hair transplantIdeally before the procedure. Afterwards, ask your physician. For the first month, avoid direct sun, sauna, the sea and swimming pools. Liposuction, gynaecomastiaBefore surgery. Afterwards, only with your surgeon’s approval.Short, frequent walks are encouraged — a 2–4 hour route at Ephesus is something else. The compression garment is hard work in the heat.

Heat, sun and dust

In the first weeks after surgery or a hair transplant, three things matter:

  • Sun: The grafted area and new incisions need protecting from direct sun.
  • Heat and sweating: These can increase swelling, and are harder going in a compression garment or support bra.
  • Dust: An extra factor for wounds and the grafted area on open ground on windy days.

If you do go to Ephesus after treatment

Frequently asked questions

How many days after a hair transplant can I visit Ephesus?

There is no fixed number of days. Direct sun is avoided for the first month and there is little shade at Ephesus, so if you can, visit before the procedure. If you want to go afterwards, your physician will advise on timing and protection.

Can I visit Ephesus after rhinoplasty?

You wear a splint for the first week, and swelling and bruising are noticeable. We recommend visiting Ephesus before surgery; afterwards only with your surgeon’s approval.

Is sun harmful after fillers?

Sauna, hammam and strenuous exercise are avoided for the first 24–48 hours. We recommend not planning a long walk in the heat during that window; your treating physician gives the final advice.

Can I visit Ephesus in a compression garment after liposuction?

Short, frequent walks help recovery, but the Ephesus route is a 2–4 hour walk in the heat. You need your surgeon’s approval for it.

Can I swim in the sea in Kuşadası after treatment?

After a hair transplant, the sea and swimming pools are avoided for the first month. After surgery, your surgeon sets the timing at your check-up.
